Ready for First Footing

Not that you care, Gentle Reader, but I've spent the last few hours--on a Friday night, mind you--cleaning my house in preparation for the New Year. It's a Scottish thing: you clean the house, so that all will be in readiness for your first visitor of the New Year. Tradition is that this first visitor will set the pace for the coming year, or in some way influence one's fortunes for the year. There are preferred visitors of course, and those not hoped for. I will take very careful note of who this person is, to make first footing in my house this year, and will here on this blog recount all that comes of it through the next 365. Perhaps of little interest to you, Gentle Reader, but it amuses and edifies me to do so. It is a way to be more mindful, more reflective on my everyday life, and it provides an opportunity to look into what might be at the roots of an old tradition. Bliadhna mhath ùr!
